Peter Gabriel says, “One of the most extraordinary experiences I’ve even had as a musician was playing music with apes.”
Accompanying Peter and his associates from the next room the Language Research Center in Atlanta, Kanzi played his keyboard. Gabriel says, “there was clear, sharp, sensitive musical intelligence at work. It almost like meeting your ancestors and playing music with them.”
Gabriel makes a sincere appeal to support the bonobos at Bonobo Hope at the Great Ape Trust and the scientists who care for them, including Dr. Sue Savage-Rumbaugh, named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influencial People in 2011.
He hopes to one day visit the bonobos in their new home at Bonobo Hope in Des Moines, Iowa, and make music. Short clips seen in this video of the musical experience may one day appear in one of Gabriel’s full-length features.
